Hello, I am a 20 year old female, weigh 160 pounds and am around 5'6. Today was my sixth day working out at home, and I am just wondering how long it takes most people to see results. I understand that everyone is different, but I would just like to know on average what most people experience, how much how soon. I am trying to lose weight, and some toning would be nice. Every morning I do a 30 min aerobics video, and then I do another 30 min of a television fitness program, which is split into some aerobics and toning (mainly ass, abs, and thighs). For the last couple of months I have been completely inactive, and before that I didn't get very much exercise. Any advice or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

A good rule of thumb is about six weeks before someone will comment 'Have you lost weight? You look great!'

I recommend getting a tape measure and taking several measurements on your body

I take it that you are maintaining the same diet, but increasing your activity level.

It requires a deficit of about 3000 calories per week to lost a pound. Assuming that your exercise routine is about as demanding as a 4.5 mile per hour walk, assuming your weight was at a steady state before, you have a deficit of about 450 calories due to your increased activity level.

Assuming that one can readily see no less than a 5 pound weight loss, you should 'see results' in about a month. But make sure you don't increase your consumption of calories.

Cut an additional 500 calories out of your diet, and you could 'see results' in a couple of weeks.

1. Take a picture of yourself today in a bathing suit and put it on your refrigerator door. If you want extra motivation, place one on your bathroom mirror as well.

2. Count calories only to the nearest 200. (i.e. that looks like a 400 calorie meal as opposed to a 800 calorie meal).
