I would like to get a decent heart rate monitor that I can use on the treadmill or while hiking...... What features do I want to look for and what is an average price to pay?

Thanks in advance

I have a polar and it seems pretty good. It goes around the middle of your chest. If you put it on dry, it won't work. You need to wet the contacts. It works with my pacemaster treadmill and I have a watch that works with it too.

I've used a handgrip treadmill (where you hold these metal contacts with your hands) and they were very inaccurate. If I was really sweating, they didn't work right. The polar seems accurate all the time. YMMV
