Hi there, I'm 5ft8' and weight 175pounds. I started my weight loss program about 2-3weeks ago and i lost 15pounds which makes me currently 160pounds. Everyday i eat only sandwiches(subway style) and drink only water. My workout is as follows

monday, wednesday, friday weights

tuesday, thursday running (approx 3miles)

I supplement my weight training workout with meal replacement shakes by 'Myoplex' My question is although i lost 15pounds i dont seem the see any physical changes or difference from before. Should i continue this regime? Thanx

hi,

if you want to see physical results, you should probably do more cardio during the week, for instance, instead of doing mwf weights, and tr running, do mwf running and tr weights. you want to get in at least 30 minutes of cardio. your body doesnt actually start burning fat until after 20 minutes.

im not too sure what myoplex will do for you. it might just make your bodily waste more expensive. however, supplimenting your weight training with a substance may not help you too much.

i would suggest going cardio three times a week, and weights twice a week, with no suppliments. this way its healthy. make sure you take some vitamins as well b/c you may not get all of the vitamins you need through only eating sandwhiches.

hope this helps. -nanci

I got an ACE certification handed to me for nothing. So, no, I don't think it means anything.

Please elaborate on the 'handed to me for nothing' part. Something's amiss, here. Do you have a degree in exercise science or somesuch, which would (hopefully) make the exam a cakewalk?

Regardless of your ease in getting the certification, I fail to see how that renders my information

If i'm doing alot more cardio, wouldn;t this mean i'll be cutting down my muscles as well? Cuz i don't wanna do that i just wanna be 'hard packed' THe only time i take myoplex is after weights, cuz that is to help my body recover, no? Then and again although i don;t see the results i lost another 2pounds the following week after that. thanx

Only if you're not taking in enough calories to fuel your energy demands. Cardio work in and of itself does not burn muscle. Even if you do a _lot_ of cardio (think Tour de France bicycle racers) you will be fine as long as you eat right.

If you eat well (i.e., good nutrition), you don't need to waste your money on such supplements. All the vitamins and minerals your body needs are available in food, and your body is evolved to absorb them most effectively from food, not pills and potions.

As I understand things, and in my personal experience, your body needs a little bit of carbohydrates (usually sugar) in order to burn a lot of fat. If I am only doing an hour of cardio, I don't see any evidence of my body running out of stored glycogen/sugar in order to burn fat. If I go longer than 2 hours, I do notice things. In that event, I add a couple of tablespoons of sugar per liter of water to what I drink. Most people working out at gyms don't do enough cardio to see this.

So what you're trying to say here is, to yield the best results i should have more carbs intake prior to my workouts.
