Hi,
I am looking to buy a treadmill. I would like some feedback from those of you using treadmills.
I would be using the treadmill for walking purposes. I am not a jogger or a runner.
I am on a tight budget and was looking at a manual treadmill. What are the advantages/disadvantages over a motorized treadmill.
Thanks for the advice.

your knees and hate to workout!<<
I believe the original poster was asking about treadmills for walking and I presume that manual treadmills would only work on an incline. Please explain how walking on an incline will ruin knees. My observation has been that knees are usually ruined for one or more of the following reasons:
1) don't exercise regularly and push too hard when jogging/running 2) poor running form (like extreme pronation) and/or bad shoes 3) overweight and too much exhertion 4) genetically predisposed to injury (I think too many people believe they fall into this bin without good medical evidence)

Manual treadmills work on an incline as well as on a flat plane. The moving action is created with your feet and legs. You have to press down through your knees HARD to make the treadmill move. Try it sometime and you will see what I mean. You could try this on a regular motorized treadmill without it turned on. This will give you a feel for what your knees will go through on a manual treadmill.
Please
I think I kinda explained that above. I can't tell you the exact physiology of the action, but I do know that manual treadmills out alot of pressure on the knee joint, unnecessary pressure. For a descritpion of teh exact physiology I suggest you ask Denise Howard. She knows her stuff. Just repost here: ATTN: Denise Howard
My observation has been
The knee joint needs to be protected. Most folks don't understand how posture and exercise techniques can make a difference in avaoiding injuries. Overuse injuries are quite common.
See above...technique and proper equipment very important.
could be a factor
I agree
