Washington - Another reason to pull your socks and get down to exercise regularly. Researchers have opined that exercise takes years off a man's life, enhances his sex life and cuts down chances of impotence.
The study involving physically active men above the age of 50, showed that they had a 30% lower risk of impotence than men who were inactive. The findings appearing in the
August issue of 'Annals of Internal Medicine' observe that as men age, there is an increased risk of impotency creeping in, which can be curtailed with exercise.
Impotence, medically termed as Erectile Dysfunction, affects 20 million Americans annually. The study observes that age 60 nearly half of all men will have had at least one brush with impotence and for decades, worsening sexual function has been accepted as a natural part of aging. However researchers say that this might not be the case.
The survey revealed that men who were physically active reported better erections and frequent, vigorous exercise equaled to running at least three hours a week or playing singles tennis five hours per week. It also reduced the risk of impotence by 30 per cent.
