While on my four day vacation I went off my usual food and exercise program and onto the typical Amercan diet high salt diet. I was shocked to see a 7 pound weight gain when I came back! My bp also rose - from 110/70 to 135/75. "Forbidden" foods I ate: sausage, home fries, bacon, muffins, pizza, hamburgers. I didn't stuff myself and I didn't eat any desserts. The buffet breakfasts might have been my downfall. Yes, probably 5 lbs of the 7 are water weight. I'm really going to have to bring my own foods for my next vacation - 7 lbs is not acceptable.

Hey, we were up at Brown this weekend too -- don't know if you saw my posts about it. DH and I both studied computer science there, and
Thursday there was a big celebration for the 25th anniversary of the department. (We were there before that, but at that time it was part of applied math.) Then we went to campus dance on Friday and the pops concert on Saturday.

Congrats to your son! What did he major in?

And where did you eat to gain those 7 pounds? I have fond memories of many RI restaurants.

Probably too much salt, Brad. I can gain 5 pounds overnight if I've indulged in salty foods. Give it a couple days and most of the weight will be gone.

Hope you enjoyed the vacation.

Yes, no doubt salt is a big culprit. As of today I've lost 2 of the 7 pounds. Normally I get less than 2 grams of salt daily, plus I get loads of potassium from the fruits, veggies, and other foods I eat. My vacation was a bit stressful since it involved 16 hours of driving (our son graduated from Brown - Magnum Cum Laud!)
