Thanks to many of you in this group who positive reviews on the Proform 485E, I picked up one for my wife. Personally, I've always abhored machines whether exercise bikes or threadmill etc- just too boring. However, this is the first machine that I actually enjoyed using. Quite surprised really. SOLID (for the money) and smooth. One of the best part is its incredible silence after hearing my parents treadmill.

Question: We got this at a Sears closeout sale ($300). Should we get the extended warranty?

$50 for bring in to local depot 20 minutes away (labor and parts) $80 for in home labor and parts, PLUS they come out once a year to service the thing. (Is there really much to service and do they do more than just putting a dab of grease on the outside?)

So, for those of you who have had this machine for a while, do you think it will break in 3 years, if used 6 days a week for 20 minutes each time?

Thanks in advance.

I bought an Orbitrek which I like but the other machine I was considering was the Proform 485. I have tried different Elliptical machines up to $3000 and to be honest, I prefer the Orbitrek and the 485 to many of them. The 485 seems to be built very well and I think I would be tempted to skip the extended warranty, but if I did get it , I would get the in-home one. That machine is kind of heavy to drag around to a repair shop.
