I've recently started getting into shape using a LifeFitness Cross-Trainer (elliptical). It claims to be Polar heart rate monitor compatible. I believe that these monitors are wireless. Could I use the heart rate function of this machine by getting just a Polar chest strap, or do I need to get the whole setup. I really have no need for the wristwatch portion, since I only plan to use it with this machine. Alternatively (more cheaply??) are there other manufacturers whose transmitters would work as effectively?

Any idea where u can get JUST the chest strap from? and how much?
