I am a beginner in running. In fact, I am not even running continuously but walking for sometime and then jogging/running and back to walk etc. But I feel a strong pain after about a 30 min session in my right lower leg. Its on the calf about 3/4th distance fom the heel to knee and not behind of the calf but at a small point in the calf muscle which is closest to my left leg. Its very difficult to explain the exact location but its just at a particular point and I don't think its shin splint pain. because shin splint is, I think at different location. I am anxious to know if anybody has any suggestions to avoid this. I am feeling my foot strike might not be proper and the pain maybe coming up from the heel? I tried to analyze but cannot understand much, so turing to you, experts, for suggestions? Also how should the footstrike be - forefoot to heel or heel to forefoot? Is there much we can do to change foot strike because I think it should happen naturally?
Yes, I am running either on asphalt or grass..not concrete. Thanks in advance.

i use to have the same problem when i use to go jogging in the morning. the thing is that i did not fully warm up before i went jogging and my muscles would kill me. i tend to jog after work now and make sure that i fully warmed up and stretched before embarking on the road.

Back off and do another exercise instead until your injury heals. Running injuries are very common and persistent.
Try running for only 25 minutes and then doing something else.
Give your tendons a chance to adjust to the new demands.
Or keep pushing and have tons of injuries along the way.

Agreed on all counts.
The symptoms sound a lot like something I tried to just keep going with a few years ago. Felt like a tight spot in the muscle or something

i once saw a dog embarking on the road. but it was raining cats and dogs outside - a car drove by, right through a poodle, and splashed him.
sorry, strange mood just hit me. i'll recover with some Gatorade.

First, 30 minutes may be too long for a beginning runner/walker, depending on ones initial physical shape and age. Try going 20 minutes for the first few months instead.
The only pain a beginner should feel is muscle soreness for up to two weeks. Otherwise pain is a sign of doing too much too
