I'm currently have a prescription for Niaspan 500mg (time release) for high blood pressure and it seems to have it under control. In my grocery store today I saw a product called Slo Niacin, controlled release 500 mg niacin, manufactured by Upsher-Smith. I asked the pharmacist and he said there was no difference between the two. Anyone aware of any significant differences between the two? I have a co-pay on the Niaspan of $15 for 30 tablets and this other product was $15 for 100 tablets. Any comments?

Niaspan has a patented time-release method that's supposed to reduce flushing. It's regulated by the FDA. You don't really know what you're getting OTC. See www.niaspan.com for more info - you can also email them. Niaspan and niacin are to improve your lipid profile - your HDL chol, not to reduce blood pressure.
