Diet. Start with a low fat, low salt diet and reducing portions.

Pick an aerobic cardio exercise which is low impact, such as walking and cycling (in the winter on an exercycle - an adequate exercycle can be picked up quite cheaply compared with even a bicycle! I got one for about $100 and it does the job.)

Your exercise sessions should start out as about 20 minutes each, 2 per day. As you get shed pounds, and feel stronger, you can extend the sessions. Once you're up to about 35 mins per session, you can combine them into a single 45 minute session if you prefer. (I preferred two shorter sessions).

Also, increase the intensity of the sessions, because you'll find you don't feel the same level of "workout" with each session. On an exercycle, increase the resistance. On a treadmill, increase the speed or increase the incline of the treadmill if you can.

It doesn't take a lot of exercise, when combined with diet, to lose weight. You don't want to lose weight fast because that will put other stresses on the body.
