I had a heart cath yesterday, and was diagnosed with Mitral Valve prolapse. My Doctor told my family that I can go about my business and can ignore the pain, But I feel uncomfortable and scared to ignore the pain. Wouldn't it be telling me something? What do you think?

Here's a good description of mitral valve prolapse from the folks at the mayo clinics ...
http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/mitral-valve-prolapse/ DS00504

and from that page ...

In most people, mitral valve prolapse isn't life-threatening and doesn't require treatment or changes in lifestyle.

Thanks so much. I have time to calm down a bit, and read the mayo clinic link. I feel a lot more confident now. Thanks.

It's easy to freak out about problems with the heart. When my cardiologist told me after my surgery "Come back in a year", I was dumbfounded. Here I was kissing death's doorstep one day and a couple weeks later "see me in a year"? But if it's not a "progressive" problem ... i.e. it doesn't get worse with time ... then the docs seem to show less concern than you think they otherwise should!

But it makes sense ... if only they would spend a few more minutes and explain it a little better!
