I am a 40 year old non drinker or smoker, not overweight and without a family history of heart problems. I have chest pains on the left side of my chest, restricting my breathing, but not by much. Do you think this could be from stress or should I see the Doctor?

Whatever the problem, see your doctor!

If the pain feels like it's deep in your chest, it could be heart related, but if it's more a jabbing pain across the chest wall, then it could be some kind of lung infection, or chest wall muscle pull.

I was 57, had no significant family history of heart problems (father had heart problems but was a 40 a day smoker most of his life!), a relatively good diet, not a couch potato, but some stress. I had 2 heart attacks in one day that didn't present typically (just one real symptom ... pain in my chest). The first one, I didn't believe was heart, the second, I worried and called 911. Within a few hours of my second heart attack, I'd had an angiogram and was being prepped for emergency bypass surgery. I was a whisker away from death.

I'd had symptoms, but none that could be really pinned down to heart since they were very non-specific. For that reason I now am very adamant ... chest pains ... get it checked out ... no messing around.
