How long did it take you to heal after open heart surgery. I am 3 months after mine, and am feeling a lot better, but am still tired more than I think I should be - How long did it take you to get back to your old selves?

I would presume that you were started on new meds after your surgery. The meds will slow you down.

I had basically 3 milestones in my recovery after I returned home. About 1 month when my sternum started to solidify. It made moving about a lot easier because I was staring to be able to bear weight with my arms. At 3 months I started to feel far more human with far more ease of movement and far more lively. At about 1 year, I felt better than I had for years, at which point my doctors agreed to reduce the amount of beta blocker I was taking and I developed a bit more get up and go!

18 months and still have pain in chest- not bad and still suffering from depression. not as bad now

May I ask what *kind* of chest pain are you experiencing? Is it continued incision pain? or Chest Wall pain, or deeper Angina type pains?

Depression is a tough one ... I have been very fortunate, although I do have moods issues that stem from being primary caregiver for someone with Alzheimer's. That is SO draining. I don't worry much about myself because everything is pretty much under control and my recovery has been really excellent compared to many.
