I've tried, since day one of my quit, to try and think of myself as a non-smoker.

Could I go back to my former 2 pack a day habit? Probably pretty easily. But a "never-have-smoked" person could start up a 2 pack a day habit pretty damned easy, too. A "never has" and an "ex" are pretty much the same in that regard.

I also think this "once an addict, always an addict" thinking is...dunno...self-defeating and a bit on the "woe is me" side of things. But
I also think that if thinking that way helps a person stay quit, then I'm all for it. Whatever it takes to not smoke.

I'm a non-smoker. Therefore, like most of the rest of the non-smokers in the world, I don't smoke. Ever. I'm just like my "never has" wife in that regard.

I'm not really sure if the above is exactly what I'm trying to say. LOL I hope it makes some sort of sense.

I think so too Liz. After a year of quit, I don't like to read that I'm still an 'addict', if you know what I mean.

Where is that from?

I agree with it. I am a puff away from a pack a day.

B*ll*cks! We all have freedom of choice. If we can grow these receptors we can also let them die back.
And this bit *is* true

There's much more to smoking addiction than just a "simple" addiction to nicotine.

I'm sure you will, Liz. We're unlearning decades of bad behavior (everything involved in the 'ritual' that was smoking) which is more akin to obsessive-compulsive behavior than it is to addiction, imho. The nicotine is long gone. It takes a while for the behavior to completely change and for being a non-smoker to be completely natural.

You hang tough...it only gets better.

I know exactly what you mean! What are we though? Recovering smokers? Cured?

It does! I thought I felt exactly like that but, at 11+ months the cravings started again. They're not really bad cravings, but they're a bit worrying. And today I started liftsharing with a smoker. He doesn't smoke in my car, and I'm used to living with a smoker anyway, but today I've been able to taste the tar....

... maybe it's coming from some untapped reserve deep in my lungs!

I'm sure I'll feel better in a couple of days
