Enuff scholarly talk.. time for some REAL education...
Is it toons or tunes?
Anyway, there was a Baby Looney Tunes episode the other day where
Sylvester (the cat) wakes up to just the worst day ever. Granny didn't buy his favorite cereal, no one wants to play the usual games, and so on. Everything is new, and he misses his old stuff. He doesn't like the new cereal, even if it's yummier. He doesn't want to play new games, even if they're more fun. He doesn't like the new bedspread, because it's not the same as his old blankie. And he thinks "I'll never fall asleep!" when his bedtime ritual is disturbed.
The next day he's still disgruntled, and Granny asks him what's wrong.
He tells her he doesn't like all the new stuff, he wants stuff to stay the same. Granny loads up the vcr and shows Sylvester a tape of him growing up.
"See? That's you with your new blankie, when you were a baby. You hated it!" (video of Sylvester hating his blankie that he now loves.)
"And that's you eating Nice MIce Cereal for the first time" (video of
Sylvester spitting out his now favorite cereal.)
And so on...
Then Granny says, "All your favorite things were once brand new to you.
And you didn't like them at first. It takes time to get used to things.
You have to give stuff a chance. Then you may learn to love them best."
(Poor summary, but that's the essence.)
Not smoking can feel weird, too. I guess everything new feels a little weird. But we have to give stuff a chance. What feels yucky today might be our favorite thing a year from now..
