Everything pre-packaged or from a can, that is. It's cold and snowy here today and I thought a nice bowl of soup would really hit the spot. I opened up one of the cans of soup that my DH bought. 2 cups = 220 calories, no problem in the WOE. It's labelled Steak and Potato and it should be labelled Salt, Steak and Potato! I also noticed that the bowl of Chicken
Noodle soup I had day before yesterday was also too salty for my taste though not as bad as today's soup. I've also noticed that some things like the Arizona Diet Green Tea with Gingseng (sweetened with Splenda) is too sweet. Has anyone else noticed that with a healthier WOE that they become more sensitive to salt and sweeteners? I guess I'll have to cook almost everything from scratch! No problem, I'll just have to plan more.

As you mentioned. Especially the canned soups! The broth soups like chicken noodle, vegetable beef, and the like tend to taste saltier to me than creamy soups. Come to think of it my taste buds are in hyper mode or something. I ate a small amount thousand island dressing the other day and tasted ginger in it!!! I have eaten this food a million times before and never tasted individual ingredients. I also noticed that the dressing tasted waaaay sweeter than I remember it. Cool oberservation!

The only two ways to stabilize the flavor of food that has to keep for a long time are salt and fat. That's why you're better off cooking from scratch if you are trying to control salt and fat. That is why Campbell's had to drop the ads it used for its normal salt saying it was healthy -- the amount of sodium in a serving was higher than healthy for people with HBP.

Yes, it is upsetting that commercial soups are so salty. But let's try to guess why they make them so salty. There has to be a reason, right?
Anyone has an idea?

Yes I have noticed! One of my treats is one serving (three measly pieces)
of Werther's Original candies. Last time I ate them the first taste to hit me was the salt, not sweet.
I make most of what I eat now from scratch, and don't add salt to anything.

Try the Health Valley ones. I like the Potato Leek (the no salt added). I add a little fresh ground pepper and it almost tastes like homemade. I have definitely noticed that everything tastes saltier than before and so has DH.
