Hi, I started the gym a couple of months ago after stopping smoking 12 months ago. I go 3-4 times a week, but mainly swim. I was on the stair-climber machine today, and after about 10 minutes on level 9, I felt dizzy, my breathing wa hard but shallow and had a headache. My head became very hot and I had to stop. I went for a swim which seemed to ease the problem. This was about 3 hours ago. I still have a slight headache and my breathing is shallow and I still feel a bit unsteady.
When I returned home, I brought the shopping in and my breathing was very laboured and shallow even from this short bit of exercise.
I'm male, 31, generally healthy, a tad underweight, and I have a history of anxiety and more recently sinus and stomach issues.
Am I just being soft and anxious for no reason do you think ?
Thanks in advance

I think you're worried and I think you've a right to be ... but what you should be doing is going to a doctor or even a hospital rather than asking questions about it in an online forum.
Imagine somebody having chest pains that turns out to be a heart attack waiting and asking what to do in an online forum? Doesn't make sense, does it? OK, now we don't know what's happening to you and the people trained to assess you and with the equipment to help you are in a doctor's office or a hospital.
Sorry if that sounds like I'm fobbing you off, but if you've got pains, they can't be diagnosed here. What we can do is help you understand things your doctor tells you and practical advice when you know what's going on.

I don't think it was the exercise that caused the problem. Today, I feel another sinus infection coming on and have tightness in my chest. I think maybe yesterday was the start of the infection and the exercise just made me feel tired very quickly.

Well, asking about it here still won't get solved. Go See a Doctor!!!
