This problem has been driving me nuts for a while, so I bought an
OMROM blood pressure monitor (the one that goes over the upper arm) so that I can measure my BP at home at various times. When I measure the pressure at home and am relaxed, it averages 115-125/75-85 with a pulse of 65-80, but when I'm in the doctor's office and feeling just a little bit anxious, it rises to 140/92 and my pulse jumps from 75 to
120. I can't seem to control this anxiety and I'm beginning to wonder if normal stresses during the day are pushing it up without me knowing it, and whether this can cause damage over time depending on the % of time it is elevated during the day. I'd bring the monitor with me to work except for the fact that I don't want people to think there's something wrong with me so I'm going to have to sneak in some checks here and there. My doctor sent me for an echocardiogram today -- same thing, got a little anxious waiting for an hour (thinking they would find something wrong) and my heart started to race. On top of that, the staff doing the exam were kind of unfriendly. Is there any way to control this kind of nervous reaction? Is this normal? I'm thinking it can't be normal.

Thanks in advance

Possibly if your doctor ordered a 24 hour monitor check you would not stay anxious for that length of time.
