I am a 20 yr old female in good shape, non-smoker. However when I run outside within a few minutes, I feel a very "cold" feeling in my chest when I breathe, my chest gets very tight and I can no longer run. I then have great pain in my chest when breathe for about 5-10 minutes. After that I cannot stop coughing and wheezing. The weird thing is that this rarely happens when I am running inside on a machine. I have been to a breathing doctor numerous times over the years and he is convinced I do not have asthma. I have been diagnosed with Chronic Epstein Barr Virus, but I do not think this has to do with it. Also, through an EKG, my cardiologist noticed my mitral valve is unusually thick. What could be causing this horrible pain?

Hi LSW14, welcome to the forum

The bloodvessels surrounding the mitral valve can cause that pain if that valve is thick.

I must honestly admit I don't know how your 11-year old daughter relates to this but this:

"Also, through an EKG, my cardiologist noticed my mitral valve is unusually thick"

I think is the core of the problem.

I would, if I were you, turn to a different doctor in order to get a second opinion. Don't be shy. Doctors are fully aware (usually) that they may overlook something their other colleagues might pick up.
