Can anyone give me advice on managing my unstable blood pressure? it can be 160 and can be 90 as well. I don't find the medication is balancing me out as it should and was wondering if there were other things I should be/ could be doing to stabalize my BP?

When you have your blood pressure taken, there are two numbers ... like 120/80 ... The first number (called the systolic pressure) is the pressure when the heart squeezes. The second number (called the diastolic pressure) is the pressure when the heart relaxes after squeezing.

So, when you say your blood pressure can be 160 and at the same time it can be 90 are you referring to these two numbers?

Or are you referring to two measurements ... one with a 160 systolic and the other with a 90 systolic?

If you are taking your own pressure, make sure that you are relaxed (don't take it after exercising unless you specifically want the post exercise BP) and that the cuff is at approximately the same height as your heart (which is why when taken by a doctor, he'll hold your arm up or have you lie down.

If you take it a couple times in a row, then you need to let your arm relax for a couple minutes before taking it again so the blood vesssels can relax from being compressed.

Stress is a big contributor to fluctuating BP.

Talk with your doctor ... perhaps a different medication might be more appropriate.
