First let me say that I've already scheduled an appointment with a doctor but I'd like some other opinions before I go. I'm an avid jogger. For the past 2 months after about ten minutes of jogging I develop a terrible pain on the left side of my chest. If I stop for 20 or 30 seconds it goes away.
I've just started having some stomach issues like acid reflux that I've never had before, so I thought it might be that but I'm not sure.

I also thought it could be my lungs trying to catch up with the rest of my body but I've never had weak lungs and they should be tuned to the way I run.

This is starting to concern me.

Can anyone offer any opinions?

I am no doctor, but I would take it easy if I were you, until you have a doctor check you out.

Pain that comes on with exertion and eases with rest is suggestive of a cardiac problem.

Seeing a doc is obviously the first place to start. When you made the apt., did you tell the desk that you were having chest pain with exertion? Also, your age, smoking history, family history and any other medical problems or medications you are taking could all tell part of the story. Depending on your community, it sometimes takes weeks to get an apt. I, personally, wouldn't wait that long.

If it were me, I would call back and ask when the soonest you could have treadmill scheduled. I hate to be neurotic (it is in my nature) but there is so very much one can do to preserve heart muscle before a heart attack.
And, if you are like me, you will worry until you have a clean bill of health.

Aren't I just a little ray of sunshine Sorry.

Well, I'll sleep easier knowing that you are only 26.

It is very rare for someone so young to have a heart attack, but it is not unheard of, either. There are other reasons that you could be having pain related to your heart besides blockages, though. I still vote for a treadmill.

After the treadmill rules out anything horrible, you and your doc might consider Reactive Airway Disease which is uncomfortable but hardly life threatening if treated properly. I'm sure there are other possible causes but my interest wanes after heart stuff is ruled out

I should have mentioned that I'm a white male, 26 years old. No real health problems besides the average stuff. My dad passed away from a heart attack about a year ago. He was 67. He had diabetes and the medication he was taking did extreme damage to his kidneys.

Hi I was wondering what the diagnosis was as over the last 6 weeks I've been suffering the exact same problem when jogging. At first I thought it was indigestion but since ruled that out.

I'm also a 26 year old male.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated

GrantG, welcome to the forum.

Would you promise me please to not jog until a doctor has taken a test of you?

Jogging is healthy, but not for all and not always.

These messages above are over 2 years old, I don't know if those members still check into here, but I am concerned for you. Please DON'T JOG until your physician has had a look at you.

Hello.

I was reading your posting and wondered if you ever explored the notion of acid reflux and gastritis

What Are the Symptoms of Gastritis?

Symptoms of gastritis vary among individuals, and in many people there are no symptoms. However, the most common symptoms include:

* Nausea or recurrent upset stomach
* Abdominal bloating
* Abdominal pain
* Vomiting
* Indigestion
* Burning or gnawing feeling in the stomach between meals or at night
* Hiccups
* Loss of appetite
* Vomiting blood or coffee ground-like material
* Black, tarry stools

Many times individuals believe that they're having heart complications when in actuality it is their stomach that is the issue. This is mainly due to the fact that the stomach and esophagus are surprisingly quite close to the heart.

I hope this info helps.

Hello Kellydupree, welcome to the forum I hope you will like it here.

That is great information and most certainly an alternative one certainly has to take into account - thank you very much
