A quick question. I've been on 50mg of atenolol for the past 6 years, no problems at all, everytime I did check my BP it was around
130/80. The last few times I went to my Dr (also plagued with a ton of stress symptoms) my bp was higher 160-70/90-100. And my heart rate was 75-85. He decided to double the dosage. Now I'm taking 100mg every day. Ever since then or around when I doubled the dosage I feel worse, dizziness, difficulty breathing etc. My Doctor attributes it to stress/anxiety and says it has nothing to do with the atenolol.

I've checked my BP over the past 3 weeks (at home) and it's been between 135/90 on the high end and 110/65 on the low. Heart rate has always been between 49-75. When I've been feeling bad as mentioned above, my pressure has been below 120/70 and heart rate around 50.

The problem is that everytime I'm at the Dr's office it's never below
135/85, ever. And when I complain about the "overdose" of atenolol he says "we're just making sure you're covered on the high end".

Initially I thought it was morning anxiety but now that I monitor it more closely it is infact morning but a couple of hours after I take the atenolol.

Any one experienced this before? What about the difficulty breathing or heaviness in the chest (not sure how to describe this) is that due to low BP?

Sounds like you need your chest discomfort and shortness of breath evaluated by a cardiologist. You should be able to simply ask your doctor for a referral.

Fatigue and lethargy. Usually not chest pain and/or shortness of breath.

Perhaps you need a second opinion.
