Dear Dr. Chung,

I had a heart attack almost six years ago at the age of 47. I have made the necessary life style changes. I no longer smoke, eat a low fat diet, exercise daily and so on. I have been taking 20 mg of Lipitor daily and 325 mg of aspirin daily since that time. Would it be ok to take a 80 mg aspirin instead of the 325 mg? What would any ramifications be if I were to switch the aspirin dosage to the lower amount? Thank you for any information that you may provide.

Thanks for the additional information ... guess I'll stick with the 325 mg aspirin and the 20 mg of Lipitor. Have a nice holiday season.

I went from 194 lbs. to 160 lbs. after the heart attack ... I am 5' 11" and
I fluctuate between 158 and 164 now ... with Thanksgiving it's closer to 164 today . The reasoning is for less chance of bleeding, caused by aspirin. I was always under the impression that there was not a significant difference in the level of protection from a 325 mg and a 80 mg aspirin. Therefore, your recommendation is not to mess with what is working? Thank you.
