Are aqua-aerobics classes, such as deep-water and and water workouts, efficient? Do you think they are as efficient in toning than 45 minutres on the treadmill or whatever? I will be staring these soon, and was just wondering what is better at burning fat and toning muscles. (of course I will be combining both gym and swim).

Any aerobics class is designed to burn calories. Water aerobics is good for this because of the added resistance of the water. For those who may have joint problems, the water also provides buoyancy, reducing impact forces a great deal. Like any form of group exercise, it is only as 'efficient' as you apply yourself; if you make large, controlled movements you will burn a lot more calories than someone standing in the back barely going through the motions thinking they'll burn calories just by being in the same pool with more energetic people.
If you want to 'tone muscles', an aerobics class is not the best place to do it at all. To do this you need to lift some weights. A zillion reps with 2-lb. pink hand weights will get you nowhere. You need to use enough weight so that you can't do more than 8-12 repetitions of a given exercise.
Don't forget that to burn off excess body fat there is one more thing you need to do: control your calorie intake. All the exercise in the world will do you no good as long as you take in as many or more calories than you burn off.

Aqua Aerobics is a very good way of keeping fit. You get the enjoyment of doing aerobics as well as being in the swimming pool.
This type of exercise is a very good way of burning calories as you are working against the water.

I really enjoy swimming and would like to know if you get the same work out as you do when swimming or if it is just an easy way out.

aqua jogging in the deep water can give you as much intensity as swimming depending on how hard you are working out. You would want to feel breathing hard like after you did laps. it will be a really good exercise for you. regular aqua aerobics in the shallow water on the other hand, may not give you enough exercise. from scientific research (i am sorry i can't remember which journal), somewhere around 90% of the participants didn't change the bodyfat composition after six weeks of experiment. I would recommend aqua-aerobics when you want to increase the range of motion, increase joint mobility, and maintaining the cardiovascular fitness.
