Hello, I am new to this forum and I was wondering if anyone here has ever had this stress test done? My father's cardiologist has ordered it for him because he has back problems and may be unable to take the traditional treadmill stress test. Last week he went to the emergency room with chest pain and they performed EKG's on him and did not find anything indicating a heart attack. About 5 years ago, the same thing happened and they recommended the treadmill test, which he did and they found a blockage. He had a stent put in, and also a pacemaker. Long story short, he is very concerned about whether or not this adenosine/cardiolite stress test can cause him to have a heart attack (his sister actually had a heart attack while taking the treadmill stress test). He is leaning very heavily towards not having the test done at all (he is 70 years old). I would appreciate any advice or experiences that anyone can share. Thanks!

Hi and welcome to the forum, Deedee. That seems like tough luck Usually these tests are no bit more "dangerous" then other streneous effort, like walking the stairs up or jogging or something like that. If you feel your father is possibly put in harm's way, I would most certainly talk to the doctor about this and let him know my concerns. He, together with your father's medical records he's got, can best decide whether or not this test is worth taking under the circumstances.

Thanks for your reply, Saskia! I think I will contact my father's cardiologist and talk to him about this. It would make me feel better as well. Have a great day!

You have a great day yourself as well, Deedee. I can understand completely why you feel the way you do. After all, a 70-year old man doesn't really go out jogging as well regularly.
